Last summer, Mick Wragg was sitting on his back patio enjoying the nice afternoon, when he noticed an abundance of chipmunks. He and his wife decided to throw a few nuts at them for entertainment.

 

Look beyond pepperoni and you will see a world full of crust topped with unusual edibles. Maple Grove has its share of interesting culinary delights which harken to that original Italian triangle we call pizza. Sometimes it’s a spectacular topping, other times it’s a crust that’s cracker thin.

Channel your inner super hero and gain some confidence along the way. World Taekwondo Academy is offering a self-defense class for women ages 13 and up on March 1st at 10 a.m. The class will teach practical defensive moves that can be useful in any risky situation.

Great achievements are often times marked by great victories. Three outstanding Maple Grove area young girl athletes added significant accomplishments to their resume last year. They prove that age is simply a number and that anything is possible.

A scruffy puppy named Freddie, with floppy ears and wistful eyes, once lived in an Arkansas shelter. His fur, the color of Caribbean beach sand, was badly matted and balding in spots around his snout and belly. Freddie waited to be claimed. But he had no owner.

 

Gone are the days when kids wandered off to nearby parks, sans parental supervision, and played for hours on end. Father of three and Maple Grove resident Pat Ross noticed this and set out to create a new play-time destination: his own backyard.

Maple Grove charter school Beacon Academy has been recognized as a Reward School by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Beacon ranks in the top 15 percent of Title I schools based on the The Multiple Measurements Rating.

 

Kate Maguire, the Osseo School District’s Superintendent, has been named the 2014 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year, a prestigious honor sponsored by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA).

 

Leaving behind a half-day kindergarten program for a full-day one is a transition for students, teachers and parents alike. In the last legislative session, a bill was passed to create funding for kindergarten state-wide which opened the door for a longer school day.
